Insider is looking for a Chief Subscriptions Officer to lead our expanding subscriptions business as we aim to reach our first 1 million subscribers.

This person should be passionate about building highly effective teams with scalable processes. They should have a deep understanding of subscription businesses and be excited by making fast progress with a wide mandate. Insider fervently believes that impactful journalism can only happen when it’s reaching lots of people, and we want someone who can ensure our relationship with our audiences matches the level of our ambitions.

Reporting into the President and part of our senior executive team, the CSO is responsible for our subscription acquisition, retention, marketing, business intelligence, and customer-facing functions directly, as well as our enterprise subscription business, working closely with editorial and dedicated product and technology teams to delight prospective and existing subscribers with a frictionless experience.

The CSO is responsible for:

  • Leading our subscriptions business, communicating and aligning all teams on our vision, strategy, and plan.
  • Quickly growing our subscriber base through smart and data-driven strategies. Acquiring new subscribers through organic and paid channels. Improving retention and mitigating churn.
  • Beyond our consumer subscriptions, continuing to support and grow our enterprise subscriptions business.
  • Creating a highly engaging and personalized experience for our subscribers that delivers value and a great user experience.
  • A frictionless, intuitive experience for subscriptions through an iterative approach to progress.
  • Building and supporting a company-wide newsletter portfolio that is compelling and need-to-have to our most engaged readers.
  • Leading, motivating, and continuing to build a high performing team as well as driving cross-functional collaboration across the business, product, technology, and editorial teams.
  • Plugged in to the best-in-class subscription practices and innovations, as well as on top of the fast-changing competitive landscape.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Proven success leading a growing digital subscriptions business, ideally in the media space or another fast-growth environment.
  • Outstanding data and analysis skills that help maximize the effectiveness of our subscription strategies.
  • A deep understanding of subscriptions business dynamics and KPIs as well as the competitive landscape.
  • A keen understanding of dynamics and opportunities for acquisition and retention through mature as well as emerging channels and platforms.
  • Excellent leadership and management chops — ability to build relationships and inspire a large cross-functional team is essential to success.
  • Ability to spot trends early in the market and quickly reorient teams in response.
