Wegmans is a regional supermarket chain based in Western NY and one of the largest private companies in the U.S. Wegmans stores are known for their huge size and broad selection of food.

The company plans to open new stores in Virginia and Massachusetts in 2015.
In 1916, John Wegman opens the Rochester
Fruit & Vegetable Company. He is joined by his brother Walter
a year later. In 1921, the brothers would purchase the Seel Grocery
Co. and expand operations to include general groceries and bakery
operations. Wegmans stores are incorporated in 1931 and feature
meats, produce, groceries, dairy products, and baked goods.
Wegmans has been an early adopter of new technology. Wegmans was one of the first supermarkets to introduce electronic discounts in 1990 and bar-code scanning in 1974.
