Syracuse University is a major university located in Central New York in the city of Syracuse. It was founded in 1870.

The university is situated on 200 acres on a hilltop overlooking downtown Syracuse; the main campus has 170 buildings.

The school's nickname is the Orange and is a member of the Big East athletic conference. It is best known for the Carrier Dome, an indoor athletic dome built in 1980 that seats nearly 50,000. Both the school's basketball and football teams play in the Carrier Dome.

There are approximately 14,422 full-time undergraduate students enrolled at Syracuse and 4,670 full-time graduate students. The student body comes from all 50 states and 123 foreign countries.

Syracuse is made up of nine colleges:

Tuition for the 2013 school year for undergraduates is $38,970 plus housing, meals and expenses.

Syracuse has full-time instructional faculty, 1,043; part-time faculty, 94; adjunct faculty, 472. Of the full-time faculty, approximately 86 percent have earned Ph.D. or professional degrees.

The university employs full-time staff of 3,346 and part-time staff of 357.

There are over 247,000 living alumni. Syracuse reported an endowment of $1.17 billion at the end of 2013.
