Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1824 and is one of the oldest engineering schools in the country. The school offers more than 145 programs at the Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate level.
The campus is located in Troy, NY, just north of Albany and 150 miles north of New York City.
There are 5,539 undergraduate students and 1,166 graduate students from 39 states and 13 countries.
Tuition for the 2010-11 school year is $39,600 with an additional $14,000 for room and board, fees and other expenses.
President Shirley Jackson is the highest-paid university president in the country with a reported annual salary and benefits of $1.6 million.
RPI has 401 full-time faculty and 95 part-time. The school has been in a hiring freeze since December 2008 and is recruiting for a limited number of positions.
