Regal Entertainment Group operates the largest and most geographically diverse theatre circuit in the United States, consisting of 6,653 screens in 534 theatres in 37 states and the District of Columbia as of June 30, 2011, with over 224 million annual attendees for the fiscal year ended December 30, 2010. Regal has theatres in 43 of the top 50 U.S. designated market areas.

Regal operates multi-screen theatres and has an average of 12.4 screens per location, which is well above the North American average of 6.6 screens per location.

The company operates theatres under the names Regal Cinemas, Edwards Theatres and United Artists Theatres.

Regal develops, acquires and operates multi-screen theatres primarily in mid-sized metropolitan markets and suburban growth areas of larger metropolitan markets throughout the U.S.

In 2010, the company reported revenues of $2.8 billion and net income of $77.3 million. Of total revenues, $1.97 billion came from movie admissions and $724.3 million from concession sales.

History

Regal was founded in 1989. Investor Philip Anschutz acquired Regal along with Edwards Theatres and United Artists Theatres after all three companies filed for bankruptcy. Anschutz merged the three together to form Regal Entertainment and went public in May 2002.
