The company is the largest natural gas distributor in Kansas and Oklahoma, and the third largest in Texas, operating as Kansas Gas Service Company, Oklahoma Natural Gas Company and Texas Gas Service Company, serving over 2 million customers. Originally founded in 1906 as an intrastate natural gas pipeline business in Oklahoma, ONEOK today is involved in all aspects of the natural gas industry, literally operating from the production well-head to the distribution customer's burner-tip. In 2004, the company had net income of $242.2 million. ONEOK is the majority general partner of Northern Border Partners L.P. (NYSE:NBP), one of the largest publicly-traded limited partnerships.
