130 Division St. Website: http://www.griffinhealth.org Griffin Hospital is a full service, 160-bed, not-for-profit, acute care community hospital with a medical staff of more than 200 and with 1,200 full time, part-time and per-diem employees (780 full-time equivalents). Griffin Hospital has served the people of the Lower Naugatuck Valley since December 9, 1909, when the first patient was admitted to a 24-bed building. In 1994, Griffin Hospital opened the first patient care building in the country designed and constructed to accommodate a Planetree care philosophy. Griffin Hospital is the model site and headquarters for the Planetree organization, which has grown from 13 to more than 85 member hospitals since becoming owned by Griffin in 1998. New employees are required to attend a mandatory 2-day Planetree retreat at a retreat center in Madison, CT where they are given a course in the Planetree philosophy of care. In fiscal 2004, the hospital had a profit of $1.3 million with a budget of $87.7 million. Admissions were 7,349 for fiscal 2004 with 160,427 outpatient visits. Griffin has been named one of the Best Employers to Work for in America six consecutive years. Benefits Griffin pays out quarterly bonuses to employees who meet departmental goals known as the Success Reward program. Employees are also recognized "On the Spot" with the Spot Recognition Program. This program recognized employees who go above and beyond their duties with small tokens of appreciation such as movie passes, gift certificates, discounted coupons, free coffee and donuts or just a card saying "Thanks" or Planetree sticker for the employee badge. Managers and directors are encouraged to pull these items from "Tool Boxes" given to them by administration.
