In the early 1900's, Granite began building roads in the agricultural area around Watsonville, CA. Over the past 84 years, Granite has earned a reputation as a preeminent builder of quality projects, from the first roads through Yosemite National Forest to some of the largest segments of the federal interstate highway system. Today, Granite is one of the largest heavy civil contractors in the United States and is a large producer of sand, gravel, asphalt and other aggregate-based construction materials.

Granite owns and leases a substantial amount of aggregate reserves, and owns a large number of construction materials processing plants. It has one of the largest contractor-owned heavy construction equipment fleets in the United States.

Granite is organized into two divisions. The Branch Division, the larger of the two, is composed of 11 branch offices that serve local markets in the West, as well as serving the Washington and Alaska markets through our majority-owned subsidiary, Wilder Construction Company. The Branch Division has both public and private sector clients and targets new construction and maintenance projects as well as site preparation work for housing and commercial development. In addition, most branches are vertically integrated with an aggregates business, providing a key competitive advantage and a source of additional revenue.

The Heavy Construction Division (HCD) pursues large, technically complex infrastructure projects nationwide. HCD has five regional offices across the country and pursues opportunities that often vary from a branch project in size, scope and complexity. These projects generally range from $50 million to more than $250 million.

Granite performs a variety of infrastructure projects including:
· Road & Highway Construction · Airport Infrastructure
· Grading & Paving · Rapid & Railway Transit
· Bridges & Structures · Dams, Locks & Levees
· Pipework & Utilities · Commercial/Residential Sitework

In 2005, Granite employed over 7,000 people nationwide and had revenues of $2.6 billion. Net income was $83.1 million.
