CNA's insurance products include standard commercial lines, specialty lines, surety, marine and other property and casualty coverages. CNA's services include risk management, information services, underwriting, risk control and claims administration. California, Texas and New York are the top three states for premiums written by CNA. Headquartered in Chicago, CNA has offices throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. Total revenue for 2012 was $9.54 billion, up from $8.95 billion. Net income for the year was $628 million. CNA reported total assets of $58 billion at the end of 2012. The company is 90% owned by the Loews Corporation. History Continental Assurance Company of North America was founded in Detroit in 1897. The purpose of the company was to provide accident and health insurance to railroad industry employees. This company then merged with the Metropolitan Accident Company, changed its name to the Continental Casualty Company, and moved to Chicago.
The National Fire Insurance Company was acquired in 1956, and in 1963 the American Casualty Company was acquired. The first letters of each of the original companies were merged to form the acronym CNA. It was then referred to as the Continental National American Group, now it simply goes by CNA. Benefits
