C.H. Robinson Worldwide is the largest
provider of third party transportation logistics services in
North America. C.H. Robinson is also the world's largest transporter
and trader of fresh fruits and vegetables.
The company serves over 32,000 customers and delivered over 7.3 million shipments in 2008, with trucking being its specialty. However, it can manage product shipments by either truck, train, air or sea. It also provides air, ocean and customs services.
The company works with Fortune 500 and major companies to develop logistics plans and provide the people and execution to make the plans work.
The company has 235 offices and works with over 47,000 transportation carriers worldwide.
In 2009, total revenues were $7.57 billion, an 11.7% decline, and net income of $360.8 million.
History
The company was founded in 1905 by Charles
Robinson as a produce company partnered with the Nash Brothers,
who operated and supplied grocery stores under the name Nash
Finch. It was incorporated in North Dakota.
In 1976, C.H. Robinson became independently
owned when Nash Finch shares were bought out by employees. The
company would go public in 1997.
