Boston Market is a leader in the fast-casual restaurant category,
providing time-pressed consumers with great-tasting, convenient
meals. Boston Market has 630 locations in 28 states and are noted
for home-style food including rotisserie chicken, carved turkey,
meatloaf and roast sirloin accompanied by side orders such as
potatoes, macaroni and fresh vegetables.
The company also partners with leading
supermarket chains to bring restaurant-quality, Boston Market-branded
meals into the deli department so shoppers can enjoy the one-stop
convenience of purchasing ready-to-heat meals at the same time
they do their grocery shopping. The company also provides catering
services.
Boston Market was sold by the McDonald's
Corporation in August to private equity firm Sun Capital Partners
for an undisclosed amount.
History
The restaurant was founded in December
1985 as Boston Chicken and its first restaurant opened in Newton,
MA. In 1995, Boston Chicken restaurants would change their name
to Boston Market to reflect the addition of ham, turkey and meat
loaf.
In 1999, The H.J. Heinz Company began offering
Boston Market Home Style Meals, a line of premium frozen meals
sold in grocery stores across the country.
Boston Market grew rapidly in the 1990s
and sales eventually slowed and the company filed for bankruptcy.
The chain was acquired by McDonald's in May 2000.
