BellSouth has more than 21.2 million phone lines in service and 2.3 million DSL customers.

BellSouth also owns a 40% stake in Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest cellular phone service. SBC owns the remaining 60%.

BellSouth also offers online and yellow pages directory advertising through BellSouth RealPages.com and The Real Yellow Pages.

In 2004, BellSouth had revenues of $27.91 billion and net income of $3.36 billion.

History

BellSouth is one of the seven original Baby Bells -- regional phone companies spun off from AT&T due to monopoly concerns. BellSouth opened for business in 1984 with 96,000 employees, assets of $21.5 billion and 13.6 million access lines.

In 2000, BellSouth and SBC Communications combined their cellular operations to form Cingular Wireless.
