History
In 1951, Baptist Hospital opens with 140
beds and a post-operative recovery room, the first in Florida
and possibly the second in the United States.
In 1964, an expansion provides space for
one of the nation's first two outpatient surgery centers. - An
intensive coronary unit opens, one of the first four ICC units
in the United States.
Benefits
Group Health Insurance (PPO or
HMO)
Group health insurance is available to all full-time employees
and their dependents. Part-time employees are also eligible
and pay less than full premium. Eligibility starts the
first month after 30 days of employment.
Dental Insurance
Full-time employees and their dependents are eligible for group
dental insurance. Eligibility starts the first month after
30 days of employment.
Group Life Insurance
Group life insurance is provided by Baptist Health Care for all
full-time and part-time employees. Additional coverage
is available to employees at excellent group rates. Eligibility
starts the first month after 30 days of employment.
Dependent Life Insurance
Full-time employees can take advantage of discounted rates for
life insurance coverage for their spouse and legal dependents.
Eligibility starts the first month after 30 days of employment.
Long Term Disability Insurance
Long term disability insurance is provided by Baptist Health
Care for full-time employees disabled after 6 months of continued
disability. Long term disability insurance integrates with
Social Security and Workers Compensation. Eligibility starts
the first month following 90 days of employment.
Optional Insurance Plans
Supplemental long term disability, universal life insurance,
short term disability, vision insurance, and cancer insurance
are available to full-time and part-time employees working at
least 30 hours a week at discounted rates. Eligibility
starts the first month after 30 days of employment.
Retirement Plans
Retirement benefits are provided for all employees. A monthly
benefit is available at age 65 based on service and final pay.
Employees are 100% vested after 5 years of qualified service.
Eligibility starts after 1 year of service, 21 years of age,
and 1,000 paid hours during the first year of employment.
Section 125 Flexible Compensation Plan
Baptist Health Care provides this benefits for all full
and part-time employees. This plan takes contributions
for health, dental, and term life insurance and deducts them
before taxes. Eligibility starts immediately upon
hire.
403(b)
This benefit is available to all employees. 403(b) is a
payroll deduction savings program which also reduces federal
income taxes with employer match after 1 year of qualified service.

Flex Spending Account (Cafeteria Plan)
Baptist Health Care provides this benefit to all full and part-time
employees. This plan sets aside uncovered medical and childcare
expenses on a pre-tax basis. Eligibility starts the first
month after 90 days of employment.
Paid Days Off (PDOs)
PDOs are the incorporation of vacation, holiday, and sick
leave into one program which allows for greater flexibility to
employees in scheduling paid time off. Time off is paid
at the employee's regular hourly rate. Accruals begin on
the first day of hire and are based on full-time or part-time
hours worked. Full-time and part-time employees are
eligible to use their PDOs after the 90 days probation period.
