Bakers is a leading national mall-based retailer of fashionable shoes for hip, style-driven young women. The company also operates Wild Pair stores. Bakers offers the latest fashion merchandise at affordable prices. Customers can also purchase shoes from the Bakers website.

The Company's merchandise includes private label and national brand dress, casual and sport shoes, boots, sandals and accessories.

Bakers is owned and operated by Bakers Footwear Group, a St. Louis based retail company. In addition to the Bakers brand, the stores also offer many other brands including Ed Hardy, Jessica Simpson, BCBGirls, Guess Sport, Rocawear, Blowfish, Playboy, and Baby Phat.

Bakers currently operates 239 mall-based stores in 37 states, including 21 Wild Pair stores.

Bakers stores are targeted to women age 12-29. Wild Pair stores offer edgier, faster fashion-forward footwear that reflects the attitude and lifestyles of both women and men between the ages of 17 and 24.

In fiscal 2008, the company reported revenues of $183.6 million and net loss of $15 million.

Bakers has 444 full-time and 1,959 part-time employees with approximately 150 of employees at corporate offices and warehouse, and 2,253 employees at store locations.

History

The company was originally founded in 1926 and acquired in 1997 by the current chief executive officer, Peter Edison. In June 1999, the company teamed with the then existing management of Bakers, a footwear retailer created in 1924 by Edison Brothers Stores, Inc., to purchase selected assets of the Bakers and Wild Pair chains, including approximately 200 store locations and merchandise inventory from Edison Brothers.

The company went public in February 2004.
