Avaya was formed on Oct. 2, 2000, when it was spun off from Lucent Technologies and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. For more than a century prior to that day, it was a part of Western Electric, ATT, and Lucent. In June, the company announced it would be acquired by private equity firms Silver Lake and TPG Capital for approximately $8.2 billion. In fiscal 2006, Avaya reported revenues of $5.1 billion and earnings of $201 million.
