History

Jim McCann opens his first Flora Plenty retail store in 1976. It is the first of 14 retail stores he will open in the NY metropolitan area.

In 1983, Flora merges with Rosalia Florist.

In 1986, Jim McCann acquires the 1-800-FLOWERS phone number and changes the company name to 1-800-FLOWERS.

In 1988, the company launches Bloomnet, its own network of florists.

The company would go online in 1992 and would become the first merchant partner on AOL in 1994. It mergers with Conroy's, a large California florist also in 1994.

The company launches its website in 1995.

In 1996, one of the most popular company products, the Birthday Flower Cake is introduced.

The company went public in 1999 and changes company name to 1-800-FLOWERS.COM.

Chris McCann, brother of founder Jim, became CEO of the company in 2016.

The company acquired Personalization Mall in August, 2020.
